My full name is Sahil Siraj Bharwani, and my parents named me Sahil because they thought the meaning for Sahil was very meaningful and significant. Sahil means “the bank of the river” and the name exemplifies being a “guide” or “leader”. My last name, Bharwani came from my great grandfather who’s first name was Banji and they made a slight modification changing it to Bharwani. My middle name, Siraj is my dad’s first name and it’s common for children to have the same middle name as their fathers first name in India.
My parents originally come from Pakistan and my parents moved to America for more opportunitities, freedom, a better education and better jobs. My dad started off as a factory worker and it was very difficult on him physically and one day he ended up losing part of his finger from a machine. Later, him and his six brothers decided to go into the hotel industry and they ended up being successful in that industry. Now, my dad is enjoying life and still working in the hotel industry with his brothers. One particular story my family remembers is when my youngest uncle gave a reason not to go to school for a week straight. After, as a lesson my dad and my other uncles slyly moved his mattress while he was sleeping into the patio where he was in only his boxers. They wouldn’t let him in until he fully agreed to go to school again. This story may be funny but it shows how they cared for one another and wanted each other to recieve an education and work hard to become successful. Till this day, they still help each other out and support one another.

That's a great story and the part about the mattress really embodies why they moved to America and how determined they were to make a better life for themselves and their family.
ReplyDeleteVery cool Sahil! The family story of yours is very funny but is also a nice learning example. Also, the definition of your name is very interesting as well!
