Some colleges are making changes in student applications by not requiring students to submit their ACT and SAT scores. Great post, Sahil! I'm a big believer in the movement that standardized tests should count less in the admissions process. By the ay, you might get a junior theme topic out of this post.

ReplyDeleteI love this post Sah! It's very relevant to your audience! I think that test scores should definitely become a smaller part of college admissions because of the specific and somewhat irrelevant skills that they require. Many brilliant people show their intelligence and capabilities in a classroom and out of school environment, and many of these people struggle in the standardized test department. Standardized tests like the ACT and SAT test for one specific answer regarding an ultra-generalized question, whereas a classroom environment provides a space for opinion and unique thinking. The pressure and significance of test scores frequently can narrow student's minds to thinking in a "standard" way and limit their thoughts. However, if schools decide to make ACT and SAT submissions optional I think they need to be completely unbiased in that if "student A" would submit an application with terrific test scores and "student B" didn't send in test scores, there would be no assumption that "student b" struggled in test taking. Even so, I think being unbiased in this process would be incredibly difficult. For these reasons I think that a school making this change would need to choose if they accept or do not accept test scores in order to even the playing field for these two hypothetical students.
